Range Rover L322 – Brake Pads
The Range Rover L322 is an all-terrain off-road vehicle with unprecedented on road luxury. The third-generation Range Rover model was launched in 2001 by British company Land Rover – and whilst an extremely capable 4WD it does come with some challenges:

This L322 was booked in to the AJLR workshop for an investigation into running issues. The owner had previously been to another garage for rear brake pad and disc changes – but on investigation our technician found that no grease or lubricant had been applied to the contact points, it was also discovered that the retainer clip that holds the inboard handbrake shoe was rolling around inside of the brake disc.
When changing brake pads it is important to lubricate all contact surfaces between calliper, slides, pins, bushings, mount, and pads. However, it is crucial that lubricant is applied to the correct part of the brake – incorrectly applied lubricant may prevent the brake from working. Applying lubricant to the back of pads will dampen vibrations between disc brake pads and calliper pistons for a smoother drive.
Our technicians rectified the issue on the client’s vehicle, ensuring it was returned in good running order. Continuing to drive the car without expert intervention could have resulted in brake failure, which would have been both dangerous and expensive to rectify.
